You all know that I'm all for experimenting with style, toying with trends and dressing outside of the box. But when it comes to some of the fads we see circling the streets as well as our Instagram feeds, there are simply some things better left in pictures.
So here it is! My very first fashion anti-haul; a curated list of items I never plan on buying/wearing and why.
Enjoy!
#1 Fishnets
Though I'm pretty positive that I am the one who started the trend of wearing fishnets underneath ripped denim (as I wore that once in a Snap story back in 2015), it's not something I plan on testing out again. To me the trend feels extremely "hipser" and on the verge of trashy. Something about fishnets hiked up past your belly button with low rise jeans and a crop top just feels a little juvenile. Maybe I'm turned off because any time I've spent in fishnets has been while dancing in character shoes and an uncomfortably tight body suit in front of hundreds of people. But that's besides the point.
Though some people have pulled it off in a very street style sort of way, this particular trend just doesn't suit my personality or my wardrobe.
#2 Berets
For this statement, I personally apologize to Maria Grazia Chiuri. I've absolutely adored everything Dior has released in the past few collections minus the addition of a small head accessory. To me, it's a piece better left for mimes, and those extremely obsessed with stereotypical French culture. Personally, I am neither of those things.
#3 Chokers
Originally popular in the mid nineties, chokers have made a colossal come back. Though I admire all trends, some are just not for me. Chokers being one of them. The days I wear jewelry are few and far between already, and something about chokers feels very common. I don't want to look like everyone else, and that's why I sometimes struggle with trends. When something starts to steer away from being a trend to something literally EVERYONE wears, I tend to stay away.
#4 Crocs
Again, I must apologize to a specific designer. I completely understand where Christopher Kane saw the appeal of reinventing something that represents the opposite of fashionable and showing it in a form appealing and relatable for fashion gurus and industry experts. I can find ways to appreciate and honor everything that comes down a catwalk, however, this does not mean the collection sporting this practical footwear is my all time favorite, nor am I suddenly planning to run out and buy a pair of Crocs. For the ugly shoe trend, I'll stick to Birkenstocks.
#5 Leather/Suede Caps
Let's be honest, from first glace anyone can tell that I do not find my style inspiration from the likes of Kylie Jenner. Hats are an accessory with so much style potential, especially in the summer time. But these textured, robust looking baseball caps simply don't fit the bill for my summer style.
This blog is a place of positivity, but it's important for me to make a strong point that not everyone has the same style, which is an incredible thing! Sometimes you just have to accept that not everything suits your personality, and that's okay. Obviously I'll always condone wearing white shirts, vintage bags, leather skirts and sneakers, but you all already know that ;).
Let me know in the comments below what items you'd put on YOUR fashion anti-haul. I'd love to know.
Thanks for reading.
