It all began with a green coat. My personal style was never the same, nor was my answer to the question, "emeroo, what's your favourite colour?". Now I am sitting here thoroughly embarrassed, as I remember that green is not a primary colour. Red, blue, and yellow are our primary colours. But in the world of emeroo, we include green, because there is nothing quite like the energy green brings to any look, especially when contrasted with other stark colours. Colour blocking, as it's called, took over my wardrobe the day I saw that coat, and I want to share some ideas and inspiration with you on how you can inject these colours into your wardrobe.
The style I've grown into over the last however many years is all about simplicity and contrast. The decisions I make when carefully putting together a look or throwing something on haphazardly as I rush out the door, always come from one of these two style epicenters. When it comes to styling with bright, fun colours, chances are the primary coloured pieces will catch the most attention. But just because something is a vibrant shade of lemon yellow, doesn't mean it can't be a player in a simple ensemble. Take the look you see here for example, if these trousers were instead a neutral shade, and you swapped the red Huaraches for a pair of patent black pumps, you'd be left with an unarguably chic look. There's nothing wrong with that. But I also think it's super important to challenge yourself in your personal style. Dare yourself to wear one or two or an entire look of bold colours. You might feel like a flashing police siren at first, but when styled in a timeless way, you will soon love the confidence and life it gives you.
Of course, this advice can work with all colours. The reason I love primary ones specifically is because of the way the colours twist away at my insides (in the best way possible). The clashing of true blue and a vivacious green feels weirdly sac-religious and yet so blatantly interesting that it seems ridiculous not to wear it. Pull out a long forgotten box of primary school appropriate pencil crayons and let the colours move you. Maybe you'll end up in a zesty pair of red boots or a Facebook blue suede jacket. I assure you, when you start down this multi-coloured brick road, you won't turn back.
