Everyone goes through those phases where you simply get stuck in your ways. Know what I mean? Like when you go to your closet and you just want to wear that same comfy shift dress everyday, or that super warm and cozy leather jacket that goes with absolutely everything! Well, lately I have been doing the same thing with a select few of my beauty products. Some you may recognize, some are new discoveries and some have been re-discovered from the depths of my collection.
Enjoy.
Lush No Drought Dry Shampoo |
I am a true believer in the magic of dry shampoo. I couldn't live without it! It is so important to train your hair not to expect a wash every day or every second day. Constant washing strips the hair of all its natural, nutrient filled oils. This causes the scalp to over compensate, making your hair even more oily. Which then makes you want to wash it again. It really is a viscous cycle.
(Wow I really went all scientific there. Look at me being all knowledgeable!)
What's the solution to the viscous cycle of greasy hair? DRY SHAMPOO! Normally dry shampoos are made to add tons of volume to your hair, but these leave my hair feeling sticky as the day goes on. By the end of the day my hair feels even grosser then before. Don't get me wrong, I do love a good voluminous dry shampoo from time to time. They add body to your flat hair and most of the time they do a pretty good job of masking the grease. On the other hand, the thing that's got me all excited is the No Drought dry shampoo powder from Lush. It doesn't add major volume or texture but it does the best job of mattifying greasy hair that I've ever seen! It's a grease fighting machine! Plus it smells like grapefruit and it never makes your hair feel grimy. Now, those of you with dark hair are probably thinking "Emily, won't this make me look like I got snowed on by dandruff?" Fear not! This stuff sinks in or disappears or evaporates or something of that sort and you can't see a thing.
(I think I've lost my science cred after that description)
The point is, this stuff is a life saver!
Josie Maran Argan Matchmaker Serum Foundation |
If you've been reading this blog for a while you may remember when I did a full review of this foundation eons ago. This was back when new a lot less about makeup, yet I got something right when I picked this foundation off the shelf at Sephora. My skin has been full of acne lately and at the moment, this foundation is the only thing that doesn't make my skin worse! It's also skin tone adjusting, which is perfect if you're like me and have a very difficult shade to match. If you want more details on this beautiful product check out my full review, linked above. It may be an old post but it's still relevant.
Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara |
Here's another product I've raved about in the past! Well, here's an update, I'M STILL LOVING IT! This is my second tube of this stuff and I don't normally re-purchase makeup! It's defenitly the best drug store mascara I've ever tried. Let me really put this into perspective for you. I reach for this mascara over my Too Faced Better then Sex mascara. If that doesn't prove how amazing this product is then I don't know what will. You really need to try it.
The Body Shop Strawberry Lip Butter |
When the weather gets colder, I become like the Gordan Ramsey critic of lip balms. A good lip balm has to be super moisturizing and healing. It has to sink in and not just sit on the lips, being sticky for hours. The colour left on your lips has to look reasonably cute. And finally, it has to smell and taste good. This lip butter from the body shop ticks all those boxes, plus, since it's a lip butter it has the most wonderful texture. It's not balmy at all. The strawberry smell and taste is delightful and it leaves this wonderful, girly pale pink colour on the lips that I just can't get enough of. I highly recommend!
E.L.F Tone Correcting Powder |
Remember This from my USA beauty haul? I haven't been able to put it down since then! I'm picky with all my beauty products, especially powders. This powder from E.L.F is perfect because it really finely milled and it completely corrects the discoloration of my skin. After foundation and concealer, I apply this and it somehow perfects everything. Also, I don't have to worry about it being to dark for my skin, since its translucent. I've actually noticed that when I use foundations that oxidize (go a bit darker on the skin) this powder brings everything back to my natural colour again. It's incredible! Considering that this compact is only $3, and the Bobbi Brown powder that rivals it is around $60, I'd say go with this one! You won't be disappointed.
Smashbox Lip gloss in "pout" |
Remember when I said that I couldn't get enough of that "girly pale pink" colour of the Body Shop lip butter? Well the same goes for this stunning lip gloss from Smashbox. I re-discovered this from the bottom of my lip gloss box and I haven't used anything else since. There's something about this cool, blue toned pink that makes your lips look full and juicy. I'm currently on the hunt for more like this so I can show you guys some good dupes and alternatives. If you see something similar, don't judge the concealer like appearance of the colour in the tube, give it a try and I promise you will fall in love just as I did.
I hope you've seen something here that tickled your fancy, either that or something that's inspired you to dig through your beauty products, in search of some lost treasures.
Thanks for reading.
-Emily
