What I Would Wear to Milan Fashion Week

Full disclosure. I'm about to make a very big statement.

Italian fashion is my favorite. It's as simple as that. This may be because I am part Italian, or because I've visited Italy and absolutely fell in love. Primarily, I'm obsessed with the distinctiveness of Italian style. You know, without a doubt, when something is made by an Italian designer. It's uncannily recognizable. What separates Italian style from American, British, French, Asian, etc, is, in my opinion, the innate beauty. Sometimes I feel as though we are so caught up with trying to be unique, make a statement or do something unexpected that we forget to acknowledge why we all love fashion in the first place. It's the beauty that connects with us emotionally. I can't explain it because it's just a feeling. When fashion can evoke a feeling, whether that be desire, excitement, discomfort, or any other emotion, that's when you know that it's pure and it's real. That type of fashion is rare these days since so much of what we are exposed to is commercially run. I don't love fashion for the aspect of buying new clothes. What triggers my passion is this feeling that I can't seem to pinpoint and that only occurs when I see or touch or wear something substantial. I don't mean substantial in a physical sense but rather that the clothes aren't just clothes to buy and wear, they are something that resembles a story, a person's life, a person's emotions and a person's views of beauty.

Don't get me wrong, I adore every different aspect of fashion and the various cities, countries and people that fashion stems from. But, again, Italy seems to make me feel something the other cities and designers leave me pining for.

As far as Italian designers go there is no shortage of legends. Miuccia Prada, Domenico Dolce & Stefano Gabbana, Maria Grazia Chiuri & Pier Paolo Piccioli of Valentino and Consuelo Castiglioni of Marni, to name a few. On top of that, Alessandro Michele of Gucci, who is now considered the most influential man in fashion today. That's a big responsibility but also an exciting opportunity for Italian fashion's future.

Mr. Michele doesn't work in trends. Nothing you see on the Gucci runway will be seen anywhere else. No one could possibly pull off trying to copy or hitch a ride on the speeding, Gucci train. Michele is in a league all his own and the future of the iconic house is more uncertain and exciting than ever before.

Like Gucci, Milan is always full of wonder and surprise during fashion week. We never really know what to expect these days, which hasn't always been the case for Milan. It's an exciting time.

If I had attended Milan fashion week, I would dress to display what I was writing about before, pure love of fashion and the feeling it gives me. Putting those words into a look wasn't difficult. Each piece I chose sets off a sensor in my head, or maybe it's my heart, resonating with me in some special way. I'm obsessed with the tactile contrast between the black jeans and the cream and gold lace overlay, along with the slippery black blouse and simple but bold, gold collar accent. Texture is what makes this look pop and much of that comes from this light catching cross-body bag. The sequins add a touch of glamour and the simple shape keeps everything grounded. I'm never without a good coat and the inky blackness interrupted by stripes of crisp, block shades sets this particular coat above my others. The shape is perfectly timeless as well, as are the shoes, a classic pair of nude courts that may not bring my feet very much ease, but bring me plenty of joy.

Milan was truly fabulous, but next week is the highly anticipated finale of fashion month. Check back next Sunday to see what emeroo would wear for Paris Fashion Week.

Thanks for reading.
