What I Would Wear to London Fashion Week

I'm sure we were all weary of the possible effects current political situations would have on fashion month. However, the fashion community seems to be continuing as normal despite the US election or BREXIT. I feared that London this season would have an overall deflated and possibly bitter vibe, but I was proved wrong. Fashion has always been the perfect distraction from stress and problems and the past few weeks have been no exception. Though my personal problems such as midterms and having to wake up extra early in order to not look like a zombie don't quite match up to the worldly problems we are facing, fashion still has the same effect on me as it does on the world. Keeping up with fashion months whenever I have a spare moment keeps me motivated and inspired.

London this season was rich with story telling, starting with Christopher Bailey's exploration through time at Burberry. There were many nods to the Elizabethan century through ruffles and angular shoulders, along with some utilitarian aspects aswell. The collection was time warping yet still classic and relevant with the pajama style trousers, clunky combat boots and gender fluid trench coats. And we all know boots and coats are my two most favorite things.

Keeping with the trend of time travel, Christopher Kane's SS 2017 collection proved how brilliantly creative that man is. Mixing stone covered crocs with flowing, undone pleated skirts and cut-apart boxy dresses is a feet only pulled off by the one and only Christopher Kane.

Now that you've been familiarized with some of my favorite moments of London fashion week, it's time to think about the street style. While London if often a time when risk taking British style shows its true colours, I'm confident I would keep my look quite classic, and allow the designers to take the risks. I'm all about the subtle twists on a classic look, which is why a decided against all black and instead threw on this structured, navy coat from Kate Spade. The large mass of muted colour against an all black backdrop keeps things simple, and allows the little details to shine. Details such as the waist line zipper on this coat. Yes, it is a real zipper and it does un-do, but I'm all about the mid length coat so instead of cropping it into a blazer, I just take advantage of the extremely cool detail.

Besides the coat, this look is quite basic in the best way possible. I'm wearing only my most beloved pieces, my ASOS wrap body suit, Topshop trousers, black courts and patent leather bag. Sometimes fashion needs to simply be about what you love, instead of worrying about what's going to make a statement and what's going to get you noticed. If you strut down the streets in your favorite look, it's your confidence that will have you noticed. That's what fashion is all about isn't it? Confidence and expression.

Next week we head off to Milan. Well, imaginary Milan at least. Stay tuned!

Thanks for reading.
