I suppose you can call me the girl in the green coat.
You see, I love movie references almost as much as I love this vibrant new addition to my wardrobe.
When I spotted a very similar emerald green boyfriend style coat on the Topshop website some sort of siren went off in my head. GREEN! Why hadn't I thought of it before? Was I to caught up with black and white, neutrals and the odd pop of pastel to realize what I had been missing? After that initial encounter I started seeing green everywhere. I felt like I was Dorothy and had finally reached the emerald city.
You may be thinking, "why is she getting so worked up about green, it's just a colour". But isn't colour just the most mesmerizing thing? Sometimes I wonder if in alternate realities there are colours we have never seen. It's a magical thought, but while I'm busy pondering that, the colours I CAN see are being neglected. I'm definitely guilty of ignoring colour in the past. There's something effortlessly chic about all neutral ensembles and I could have easily bought a new black or grey coat in the exact same style and been perfectly happy. However, something about this particular green coat (Zara) spoke to me. It would be a life changing coat. Or even more than that, it wouldn't be a piece of clothing but rather a threshold for me to cross before I enter a new era of myself.
Or maybe it's just a beautiful coat. Either way, we all need to play with colour more and also appreciate the stunning world around us. I think we've all been taking colour for granted.
Colour can be intimidating, but I believe it's worth the fear and risk. What an amazing feeling it was to walk confidently through the doors of my school wearing my new coat for the first time. If I received any odd glances, I didn't notice. The colour wasn't just a fashion statement but a confidence builder. The green gave me energy and power. That's what I love so much about fashion, it sets the mood for your whole day. It's up to you what you do with colour. Let the vibrancy speak for you or allow it to help your personality burst forth. Style and colour are opportunities - take them.
I dare you to find your green coat, whatever it may be, and get inspired.
Thanks for reading.
