Top Makeup Trends for Spring 17

Inspired by recent runway looks at Topshop unique and Dolce and Gabbana, this makeup look showcases all the best beauty trends for spring 17. Each season I like to take notice to what the designers have chosen to pair with their new collections as far as hair and makeup, but rarely do I let that heavily influence my own personal routine. This past fashion month however, has resonated with me like no other. Everything was very fresh, simple and healthy. There was a reoccurring theme of picking one feature on the face to highlight while keeping everything else clean. When I say highlight, I don't mean literally highlight except for in the case of Topshop unique where the beaming cheek bones made the models appear radiating. Other brands such as Marni took a different approach, focusing mainly on the eyes with a sultry smudged black liner circling the lash lines and a flawless bare face. Another look I fell in love with was from Bottega Veneta, a soft smoky eye achieved with pale neutrals and a bronzed complexion, just in time for summer.

Though I may not have the complexion of Kendall, I've done my best with this look to show you how you can take inspiration from the catwalk makeup trends and use them to elevate your everyday routine.

Enjoy.

Glossy Lids

It's probably the easiest way to achieve an extremely statement look without worrying about colour or pigment. Eye gloss hasn't always been a staple item in women's makeup bags, but get ready to head to your local beauty counter because if you want the glow, this product is a must have. Cover your lids for a angelic, light catching appearance or dab it across your cheek bones for a glow like no other.

Beaming Cheekbones

Gone are the days (well, almost gone) of asking "can you see my highlight from space?". Powdery, glittery, unnatural highlights are in the past now. It's time for a new era of healthy skin that effortlessly beams with the help of hydrating bases, liquid or cream highlighters and of course, gloss. What do you want from your highlight? For me, it's the facade that I'm so healthy and hydrated that I just glow.

Feathery Brows

Just as we've done with highlight, it's time to ease up on the eye brows. I've never given in to the perfectly chiseled Instagram brow, and now I have the runway looks to back me up in me saying, natural is the future! This reminds me of a brilliant quote from the legendary fashion photographer Mario Testino,

"something without flaws isn't exciting. Perfection I find quite boring because it's not real."

Stained Lips

Another band wagon I never hopped onto was matte lips. When you're dry as a bone it's tough to wear the most drying substance known to man on your already flaky lips. I hate to discard all the hard work makeup companies have put into all these new liquid lipstick launches, but the trend of stained, glossy lips suits me much better. the great thing about stains is that the colour does exactly what the name suggests. Though the pigment fades slightly throughout the day your lips are left tinted, which allows you to apply lip balm as frequently as you please.

Bare Lashes

I know not everyone will be brave enough to wear bare lashes. Mascara can be like clothes, the less you wear, the less socially acceptable you feel. Lately I've been scandalous in my lack of mascara wearing and I have to say it's extremely refreshing. Not only does it make removing your makeup ten times easier, it allows for the unique facial features you've concentrated your makeup on to shine. Whether that be lips, cheeks or eyes, going mascara free is liberating!
