CatWalk to SideWalk with Max Mara

Another fashion month has come and gone, leaving me torn. Half of me can't wait for fall now that we've been introduced to the new fall and pre-fall collections. But since the snow hasn't even melted yet, the other half of me desperately needs spring.

If you know me well, you'll know I'm impatient when it comes to fashion. The second inspiration sparks, I have to act on it. Besides, collections aren't just shown 6 months in advance so the retailers can place their orders, the consumers need time to let all the new beauty sink in. Though I won't be making a personal purchase from brands like Max Mara anytime soon, I'm always eager for new ideas and perspectives to inject into my personal style. What better way to elevate your wardrobe than witnessing someone's art, and using it to discover new ways to style the clothes you already have?

When I spotted Max Mara Fall 2017, I felt at ease with the simplistic theme but equally curious to see what they'd done with the chosen colours. Working with only neutrals (and the odd pop of red) and creating entire looks in the same shade is a concept I'm sure we've all seen before, but this time it felt new. With a blank canvas of solid colour the shapes, textures and tailoring of the classic but still relevant pieces were able to shine. As far as personal style, the entire collection spoke to my obsession with oversized masculine tailoring. It was timeless fashion looked at from a modern women's perspective, from the velvet coats, slouchy knitwear over billowing trousers and my personal favorite, the double breasted suit and overcoat with a cool toned gold pearlescent sheen. Though the collection is predominantly structured, feminine aspects shine through in the subtle textiles of fur, velvet and shine. Obviously this collection inspired the look you see before you and I couldn't be more in love. In order for fashion to be bold and experimental you have to play with the colours and contrasts. Shades can be just as eye catching as colour, it's all about how you pair things. Dressing in strictly one colour pallet is such a simple way to play with your style.

Tune in next week for my #2 pick from fashion month.
