Though I never rocked a school uniform in my days in the halls, Thom Browne, along with plenty of other designers, have inspired me to embrace the fall trend of everything plaid. Incorporating plaid into a fall wardrobe seems like a given, right? I'm sure we all still have our deep hued plaid scarves from a few years back. But this year the fall collections took plaid to a whole other level. I'm dreaming of plaid blazers (a huge street style trend at the moment), plaid trousers, pleated skirts, play-suits (as you see in this post), and all the preppy goodness I can squeeze into one season.
More
than anything, the plaid suit jacket is a must have this autumn. I'm
sure you all could imagine how ecstatic I was when watching the F/W 17
shows, knowing my obsession with tailoring. Veronique Branquinho showed masculine
suiting softened with delicate sheer long sleeves covered in a
shimmering wash of sequin designs. Almost the whole of Off-White's collection was made up of tailored
or reconstructed plaid pieces along with a select bit of denim. Where
there was broad shouldered suit jackets at Celine, Ellery had a more relaxed
take on suiting with some plaid pieces among a strong 70s flair of patterns and colours.
Everywhere you turned, the fact that plaid and tailoring were going to
be fall's biggest trends was confirmed.
What
I love most about this particular trend alert is that it perfectly
coincides with not only my personal style, but my everyday styling
equation. What I mean by that is the idea of mixing contrasting pieces,
whether that be in colour, pattern, silhouette, season, or vibe. Pairing
a boxy grey plaid blazer over a romantic white flowing dress with a
pair of trusty sneakers makes for an interesting source of contrast and
of course, a pretty adorable outfit.
As
for what you see here in this post, I wanted one look to feel quite
preppy with the other more streamlined and simple. First of all can we
please take a moment to appreciate this incredible vintage pleated
skirt? Hand sewn by my Nana in the 1950's it's a little piece of history that I'm so happy is still in pristine condition after all these years. I think it's pretty clear where I got my style from. The colours in the skirt add a strong sense of uniformity but
when styled with the bold mustard colour of this suede jacket, the
outcome is something quite thought-provoking. As for the second look,
it's pretty straight forward. I love this play-suit because it speaks
for itself and doesn't need much to elevate it, except of course if you
want to wear it with a stunning pair of platform loafers.
How will you incorporate this massive trend into your fall wardrobe? The possibilities truly are endless.
Thanks for reading.
