What's on My Back to School Beauty Menu

Though the weather may not scream autumn quite yet, I am back to sitting at a desk, pining for the glorious day when it's cool enough to wear a sweater, and allowing the coming season to influence my every day makeup and beauty choices. Soon we'll be pushing the fake tan to the back of the cupboard and swapping a coral lip for something much deeper, and I couldn't be more excited! But the beginning of September means we can't completely ignore the summer either. There has to be a balance in the transition season.

So for you today I've curated a list explaining all of beauty products - including makeup, fragrance and hair - that will be essential for me this September, and all the reasons why you need them this year.

Enjoy!

A Fresh, Glowing Base.

Essential for the summer months, a glowing complexion gives a youthful, natural appearance to the skin that looks beautiful in any season.

For this back to school year I'll be reaching for the Peter Thomas Roth 24k Gold prism cream, a moisturizing, firming illuminator that can be used on its own to give the skin a diffused golden glow, be mixed in with foundation or used as a targeted highlighter. On no makeup days, blend this all over the face to give the look of healthy, plump, glowing skin.

Choosing a highlighter; what a task! For the past few months I've reached exclusively for cream highlighters as they give the most natural yet goddess like glow, and this fall I'm going to continue my love affair with the Marc Jacobs Glow stick as it gives the most effortless pearlescent glow.

I cannot leave the house without the essential last step of misting my face with some of the magic potion that is the GLAMGLOW Glow Setter setting spray. I can't explain how this works, I think it might be real magic as it somehow makes your skin appear flawless, dewy and completely cake free no matter how much makeup you have on.

A Natural Finish.

It's no secret that I'm more of a no makeup-makeup kind of girl. I like to look real; like myself but with more radiance and polish. To aid in that I constantly reach for the Dr.Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm, a light coverage base that blurs imperfections and protects the skin with SPF 45.

For added colour on the cheeks, I'm completely obsessed with the Milk Makeup Matte Bronzer, a cream bronzer in stick form that blends so seamlessly, it's impossible to go overboard. I'll apply this to my forehead, temples, cheek bones, nose, jawline and eye lids for a naturally bronzed, chic look.

Used in conjunction with the Milk bronzer I absolutely adore the Wander Beauty Carryon lip and cheek gel. I already use lipstick as cream blush on the daily, so it's handy to have a product meant equally for both.

For my finishing touch I swipe on just a touch of mascara. Some people don't feel complete without applying the lash transforming product, but personally I find I look too made up with big voluminous lashes. What's so great about the Milk Makeup Ubame Mascara is that it gives light fluttery lashes with just the right amount of definition. No clumps in sight.

Transitioning lips.

I'm not sure what I love more, the stunningly versatile colours of these two Benefit Double the Lip lipsticks (Lusty Rose & Pink Thrills), their ultra creamy formula, or the fact that their innovative shape makes applying lipstick easier than ever before. Either way, it's safe to say I can't get enough of these babies. Though I do own all the shades in the range, these two are sure to be my most worn in the transitional season.

Texture and Confidence.

I don't know about you but when the time comes for projects and essays, very minimal effort is put into styling my hair. This is the time of year when you slot something like the Living Proof In Shower Styler into your routine. It's a simple and super quick 3rd step in your lather-rinse-repeat system that gives beachy texture and body once your hair has effortlessly air dried.

As I briefly mentioned in my post "How to Match Your Fragrance to Your Look", when I look back on this particular fall season, I'm sure I will be reminded of the warm, heady aroma of Tom Ford Orchid Soleil. It's the perfect scent for rainy days, cashmere knits and cold nights meant for studying and plenty of tea.

With September comes new beginnings and a boat load of style and beauty opportunity. Let me know in the comments below what most excites you about the coming fall!

Thanks for reading.
