Last week I went to the mall with my friend. We visited our local M.A.C counter, obviously, and I noticed the man working there. I had met him before, way back in the summer when he had put foundation on me. I met him once again on boxing day as well, but I assumed that he didn't remember me since there must be thousands of people who shop there.
As I was browsing with my friend he came up to us to ask if we needed help. Without trying to sound super creepy I asked him "your Dylan right?". He flamboyantly exclaimed "why yes I am!" I told him that I had met him on boxing day, since I knew he wouldn't remember meeting me in the summer. He told me, with a huge smile "yes I remember that and also we met quite awhile ago, I thought you would have forgotten, you needed the studio fix fluid foundation in NW20 but we didn't have it and then your mom came in when I was putting foundation on you and said that you had to go since you had an appointment!" I was absolutely mind blown. He actually remembered everything. I told him how shocked I was that he remembered me and he replied "I guess there was just something about you that stuck up here" as he pointed to his head.
This may all seem really pointless but for some reason, the happy feeling I got from being remembered stuck with me. I always just assumed that I was the same as any other generic customer. I never thought that I would make such an impression that someone would remember me after 5 months.
Maybe he just has a good memory but still, I couldn't help feeling really special.
So here's my point with this rambling story. Something as simple as remembering someones name can make them feel like a million bucks. So even if you don't have the best memory, try to put in just a tad bit of effort to remember, it can really make someone feel special. I'm really going to try hard from now on to remember everyone as best as I can, because I think that everyone deserves to feel memorable.
