As you are reading this I am currently on a plane, and it is a whopping 5:00 AM! No matter, I am extremely excited to finally take off on my summer vacay. Since I am traveling at the moment I thought "what a perfect time to do a travel inspired post!" Whether you're going on holiday soon or you just want to put some good packing tips in your back pocket for when that glorious day comes, then you're in the right place.
Enjoy!
1.Know When to Roll and When to Fold
We're going back to packing basics here. Everyone should know the art of proper packing, especially when you’re a girly girl like me and you need optimum use of you’re limited storage space. When trying to squeeze in as many pairs of shorts, shirts, pants, leggings, etc, as humanly possible in your bag, know that you should be ROLLING these items. Once you get to the bulkier items like sweaters, hoodies, jackets, sweatpants, etc fold them once or twice and then lie them flat on top of all the other things in your suitcase. Over packing is an addiction, but you can make it civilized by using these tips.

2.Going Somewhere Hot? Pack Something For the Cold
Maybe you think I’m crazy but you’ll be pretty embarrassed when you go to Hawaii and you're sat in the rain in a slip dress, or when you go to San Francisco and think “it’s California, I won’t need warm clothes”. Trust me, that happened to me and I ended up walking around for the rest of trip in an XL, bright purple San Fran hoodie, NOT FLATTERING!! I’m begging you, take my advice and you’ll feel super savvy when everyone else is freezing cold and you're toasty warm.

3.Pack the Products You've Been Neglecting
In my mind, a vacation is the perfect time to use products that you don’t reach for as much at home. I’m mostly talking about makeup since you probably don’t want to be chancing your skin care or hair care. But with makeup, what have you got to loose? When I packed for my recent trip, I made sure I had my staple items like concealer and powder, I feel like those are kind of a given. But when it came to blush, bronzer, highlight, lips, liner and eye shadow I thought “why not give some other products some love?” Take a chance, branch out, you bought those products for a reason, SO USE THEM!

4.Bring Something Comforting, NOT Something That Reminds You of Home
Sometimes you can’t help but feel a little bit homesick while away. For me it is totally up in the air, sometimes I’m fine and sometimes I really miss my home and everything that goes along with it. If you’re someone who NEVER gets homesick then don’t automatically think you have to skip this one, you never know when homesickness will strike. My best advice is to bring something that will make you feel comforted, NOT something that reminds you of home. You don’t want to be constantly reminded of the thing your missing. What you choose to bring should make you feel happy and appreciative of where you are. An idea of mine is a perfume that makes you feel confident but also a bit nostalgic, just a bit. Along with that
I’ll be bringing my cute little heart shaped worry rock, you’d be surprised how much a little trinket like that can help.

5.Pack Like You’re Going to be Sick, and Then You Won’t Be
I know it sounds like an old wives tale, but I truly believe that if you forget to pack the Advil or cough drops or vitamins then you are going to find yourself with head aches and sore throats and who knows what else. I say, better safe then sorry, it’s cliche, I know, but who can argue?

6.Plan Your Outfits
High maintenance I know, but you’ll be grateful when you’re on your trip and you don’t have to give fashion a second thought, yet you’ll still look fabulous. I like to pick a theme for the trip that ties together all the looks I’ll be wearing (you’ll notice that in my upcoming posts showing everything I wore on my recent trip). Of course that is totally not necessary but it might tickle your fancy if your anything like me. Once you’ve planned all the looks you need make sure to consider changes in plan, weather, evening looks and comfortable wear. All these things may not fit exactly into your outfit plans, but they need to be considered (and can very easily be forgotten).

7.Find the Nooks and Crannies in Your Suitcase
Don’t automatically assume that your underwear and bathing suits aren’t going to take up a lot of room in your suitcase. People easily underestimate the capacity needed to keep all these necessities. I say, the best way to pack all your delicates is to pack them last and then find all the little nooks and crannies of wasted space between all your other clothes. You can even pack these things along the way, keeping a close eye on any pockets of space popping up around the luggage. Though they might be spread out and maybe harder to access, you will find yourself with a way easier packing job.

I hope you have found something useful or interesting from these tips, if so, your welcome! I hope you all have a marvelous time on your holidays or wherever you are for the remainder of summer :).
