Denim on Denim

In all my lists upon lists of possible blog posts, I never thought I would be sitting here, talking to you about wearing the previously forbidden trend that is denim on denim. Maybe you're no stranger to this particular style choice, but until very recently I was a denim on denim virgin. Though I am Canadian, I have always turned away the idea of a Canadian tuxedo, and any other denim mixing ensembles for that matter. But, as I said in my last post about sport inspired style, I've really developed my personal style in the past year, and things that before seemed horrid now call out to me as fashion opportunities. For this spring and summer, denim is more of an essential then ever. With patch covered jean jackets, ripped mom jeans, denim shirt dresses and even denim jumpsuits, being "all-the-rage", for lack of a better word, it seemed like the perfect time to share with you how I interpret this trend.

Enjoy.

I'm sure I'll soon gain the confidence to do even more experimenting with this trend, but as for now, this is what I've gone with.
My ASOS turtle neck which I would wear everyday if the weather permitted it, my stereotypical teenage girl denim skirt from American Apparel (which I bought in a moment of bandwagon-jumping weakness), a jean dress that I stole from my grandmother which is about four sizes too big with all the buttons undone and my ever so loved pair of gold espadrilles. Apparently greasy hair was also an essential part of this look, please excuse that.
This wasn't one of those mornings where I took outfit inspiration from a picture on Vogue.com or Pinterest, I kind of just threw it together and have no idea if it "works" or not. But, I don't really find myself caring too much. All day long I was getting these looks. Looks that didn't necessarily say "OMG what on earth is she wearing?", but didn't say "wow what an amazing outfit" either. My aim when experimenting with fashion like this is to make people's heads turn, and make them shocked at first, followed by respect, admiration and inspiration to try something just as creative. Whether or not you want to gamble with denim this spring, I think what better time then now to start experimenting and really having fun with fashion.

Thanks for reading.
