In the colder months, I can normally get away with having ghostly pale skin. With a pinch of pink on the cheeks it can prove to be a innocent, frost bitten type look. However, when the sun comes out, along with the bikinis and sun kissed beach bods, I tend to start feeling a bit more self conscious about my blinding complexion. As I am exploring the beauty world more and more of late, I'm excited to say that this summer I may among the many rocking a summer glow.
Maybe I'm not a Cali native, but this pale girl will be doing all she can to get a glow this summer! This is how I plan on achieving it.
STEP 1: Tanning
Gone are the days of tanning beds and swapping sunscreen for baby oil on beach days. Well, maybe you still do that, but personally I believe there are better and safer ways to achieve a tan these days.
Though I'm not religious in my tanning routine as I know some people are, I have found two products that I know I can rely on come the day when I'm craving a sun kissed look. Obviously, I try my best not to go over board with these products. I think people would notice if I suddenly went from Casper the Ghost to an umpa lumpa. For my fair skin, this is what I use.
St. Tropez Spray Tan - This spray tan in an aerosol can makes achieving an even, natural looking tan super easy. Using this once a week while regularly exfoliating and moisturizing will leave your skin bronzed and beautiful.
Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer - I've been using this magical product for years and years now, the scent has become another source of summer nostalgia. Swapping out your normal body moisturizer for this in the summer months makes tanning simply another part of the daily routine. After three or four days, you'll start to notice a glowing tint to your skin, one that looks natural and can last very well if used regularly, again while exfoliating throughout the week.
STEP 2: UVB Protection
No matter what your skin tone, it is incredibly important to protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun. When it comes to sunscreen, I mean serious business.
Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen - Maybe not everyone requires SPF 110, but for my skin, I don't want to take any chances. Not only do I want to keep my skin healthy and protected, but after living with acne my whole life, the fear of scarring is always in the back of mind during this time of year. This particular sunscreen is simple, non-greasy and the only one I use nowadays.
Clinique Even Better Moisturizer SPF 20 - As I am sure I've said in past blog posts, I couldn't live without this product. Not only does it thoroughly moisturize the skin, leaving you feeling hydrated all day long, but it's also a source of protection for your delicate face.
STEP 3: Get That Glow
Living with fair skin, I sometimes find it difficult to follow along with the glowing beach goddess trends. Needless to say that it is a tad harder to get that look when every foundation is too dark for your face and highlighter magically disappears the second you apply it on your cheek bones or rather stands out like a beacon to extra terrestrials. Luckily, this summer I've narrowed down some products that immensely help in perusing this trend.
Becca Back Light Priming Filter - This is my ultimate skin booster! I mix it with my moisturizer, sunscreen, foundation and pretty much any cream product I apply to my face. It's a simple step that instantly leaves your skin looking dewy and radiant.
Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue - I know I'm repeating myself in saying how incredible this base is, but there was no way I couldn't include it in this post! This is the ultimate summer skin product as it delivers just a tad of coverage, gives the skin a glow like no other (especially when mixed with the Becca primer) and is fully equipped with skin protecting SPF! What more could you ask for?
The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlight - After perfecting your base, simply brush on some highlighter and you're all set. It has taken time, but I've finally found my perfect, pale skin allowed, highlighter. The shimmering champagne colour will beam off your cheeks, without looking like some sort of glittery strip across the face.
STEP 4: Perfecting
Estée Lauder Bronze Goddess Shimmering Body Oil Spray - After you've tanned, and your face is fresh and glowing, it's time to perfect the rest of you. This shimmering body oil spray will leave every limb looking airbrushed and flawless. As you catch some rays, the shimmer specks will glisten, making you look as if you're glowing from the inside out. Along with the cult summer fragrance of Bronze Goddess, becoming a bronze goddess yourself won't feel very far off, even for us pale girls.
I have hope that all of us, whether ivory or mahogany, will be beaming this summer.
