Sure there are endless ways to experiment, or rather just go bonkers with personal style in the summer months. But, every now and again we all need something simple. Parts 1 and 2 of this Summer Style series have been rich in experimental elements, so I wanted to use Part 3 to showcase the neglected art of minimalism.
With fashion where it is today, we can easily be blinded by the bright, colorful and unique. For example, just the other day I was seriously considering purchasing a bright, firetruck red Gucci backpack, as if I wouldn't get tired of wearing that much colour on my back halfway through the semester. With the couture shows almost wrapped up, chic minimalism just doesn't evoke the same excitement as say, the thought of wearing one of the sheared mink Fendi Dresses or floral applique gown from Elie Saab. However, the lust for couture fades away and hopefully what we are left with is fond memories and some token inspiration instead of dollars wasted on over-the-top pieces.
As far as this look goes, it doesn't get more chic than duster length coats. I know it's a tall order to tell you to wear duster coats in the heat, so for the summer weather I opted for a sleeveless version of my favorite style of coat. The theme of "Chic Minimalism" is typically seen as effortless, but in this case it actually is effortless. We don't need to fiddle with colours or patterns. This look is entirely made up of basic, must-have pieces. Alternative ways to achieve this scarily easy ensemble is to work with all one colour (I obviously go for neutrals as you probably know). Nothing says "chic summer it-girl" like an all white look, as long as you're not wearing it to a summer wedding.
Embrace the concept of Chic Minimalism and allow it to elevate your everyday wardrobe.
Thanks for reading.
