Good morning! What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than reading emeroo, getting inspired and then clearing out your makeup? It's a liberating experience to say the least. Before clearing out these drawers I asked myself, why have I been hording all this stuff in my bedroom for years and years when I never use it? Was it to make my collection look bigger in a time of using social media to brag about how much makeup we all have? I couldn't tell you. But now that I've done it, I've been kicked on to a minimalist train. I'll buy only what I've run out of and I'll keep my collection filled with strictly favorites. Care to join me?
This is how I've organized all the makeup that made the cut.
Enjoy.
The counter of my dressing table is designated to brushes, hair elastics/bobby pins, mirrors, dry shampoo, a Beauty Blender and some of my favorite lip products. This is where I keep all my MAC lipsticks as well as popular others such as a nude Chanel lipstick, a clear gloss from Philosophy and a baby pink gloss from Dior.
In case you were wondering, The clear bottle is a pump I use to wet my Beauty Blender instead of having to go to the sink. Pretty clever right?
BRUSHES
Obviously keeping your brushes in cute little pots, like these from IKEA, is common practice. But I however, don't separate my brushes in the conventional way, with face in one and eye in the other. One pot (left) is for the brushes I reach for every single day. I'm sure you can spot a Real Techniques deluxe crease brush in there, a go to for concealer, and also a stippling brush which I use daily to blend cream bronzer. Having them separated this way allows for the quickest possible access to the brushes you'll need when in a hurry.
TOP LEFT
This is my face drawer. Out of every category, I probably cleared the most out of here. Who needs 18 matte powders when you have dry skin and like a dewy finish? In here you'll see foundations, tinted moisturizers, colour corrector and concealers in the far right box. The middle is designated to powders and the back has all primers and setting sprays. The easiest way to organize all your products is to scope our boxes from around your house and put them to good use. These red boxes were part of a gift I received from Coach that I never wanted to let go of. Now, they serve a great purpose instead of taking up room somewhere else.
TOP RIGHT
Lips were most certainly the hardest thing for me to let go of. Unlike powders, I can somehow justify have 8 lipsticks in the same shade of hot pink. Somehow I managed to condense my collection a tad, and this is what's remaining. I ordered the lipstick organizer on Amazon for $20 and use this little pink basket to house my lip glosses, lip liners, liquid lipsticks and lip crayons. I have them all turned upside down in order to see what colour I'm looking for. You may also notice the silver sheen of a lonesome Burberry lipstick, who was too big to fit anywhere else :(.
BOTTOM LEFT
This is the beloved cheek drawer. It's pretty self explanatory, pallets are all lined up while everything else is spread out so they can be seen. I know most people line up all their bronzers and blushers like I've done with the pallets, but as so many of my products were round, it became a very difficult task. Luckily, I had cleared out enough products so there is few enough to lay everything flat out.
BOTTOM RIGHT
Finally we've reached the eye drawer. My personal favorite. At the front I've lined up all my pallets by size, starting with a Z-Palette and ending with the Estée Lauder Raisin duo.
Next to the pallets are four re purposed MAC boxes. One is designated to eye pencils, the next for cream shadow sticks and liquid liner, beside that is single eye shadows and pigments, and lastly is cream shadow and gel liner pots.
TOP MIDDLE
I retract my previous statement. This is my favorite drawer. I should think of a name for this drawer... Let me know if you have any ideas in the comments below.
I see this drawer as the watering hole. A place for members of every other drawer to gather. The purpose of it is to cultivate a look that you're loving at the moment and put all the products you need for it in one place. Every Sunday I switch up the eye shadow, the lip colours, the cheek products and sometimes the foundation and concealer. Throughout the week I only use these products. It's a way of making sure you are using everything you own in a meaningful way. You'll fall in love with products you hardly used before and you fall back in love with old favorites.
In the top three squares I keep tools, eyebrow products and mascara. These are the permanent homes for these particular products. The front section and the open area on the left are where things are constantly rotating. Behind the organizer is the area designated to things I hardly ever touch, like false lashes, Sephora sample bags I insist on collecting, magnet stickers for my Z-Pallet and a replacement part for my eyelash curler.
Not only will re-organizing and de-cluttering your makeup save you space and make you feel more put together, it will also inspire you to do the same in every aspect of your life.
Thanks for reading.
