What better time to experiment with metallics than December, when shimmer, glitter and shine are in full force? Though the Tom Ford collection that inspired the following looks was for the upcoming spring season, when something inspires you, you have to run with it.

For
those of you who noticed a lack of emeroo on the internet lately, I
have an explanation. I could blame the endless group projects and study
sessions, or the pressure to get ready for Christmas and the socializing
necessary to get through everything mentioned before, but I'm not here
to make excuses or be dishonest. Being creative is a frustrating,
sometimes impossible task that I simply wasn't capable of over the past
few weeks. Feeling uninspired is something that terrifies me no matter
how inevitable it is. Something I have to remind myself of every time
I'm hit with this downward slope of inspiration, is the equally
inevitable triumphant feeling of when something will jump start me once
again. In this particular case, it was a rediscovery of the Vogue Runway
app, and a collection full of striking colours, a mix of structured and
sexy silhouettes, and just the right amount of shine. I'm sure no one
is surprised that this particular designer can have such a resurrecting
effect. It's Tom Ford for goodness sake!

The two looks chosen for this post represent the most stand out aspects of this collection in my eyes. Firstly, can we please talk about this vintage silver blouse? The oversized fit and nostalgia invoking style it brings when loosely tied at the waste perfectly complements these mouthwatering cobalt blue trousers, or what I like to call "the elephant in every room". The collection itself showed wide shouldered mini dresses in the same shade, along with tailored pieces in fuchsia pink, pastel purples, a select few leather tangerine looks and pops of lime to finish off the show. It was stunning as always but not unexpected to see cropped tuxedo jackets, this time done with oversized satin lapels and thrown over everything from bra tops and trousers to stunning ruched maxi body-con dresses. As always it was a confident show appealing for those of us who appreciate when sexy is done in the most powerful way possible. This idea is what prompted my friend Emily's look you see here, because in my experience there's nothing quite like wearing something sleek and feminine like this burgundy velvet number with something moveable and sporty like these platform velvet sneakers. As I've said a million times before, style is all about contrast, an idea Tom Ford constantly embodies.
